Use Your Head

Gear Man SmallIn my last blog (dated 2-17-14 about “Your Brain at Work), I wrote about my being more effective by eliminating brain clutter.  More brain news- prioritize, and schedule your day first thing in the morning before you check your emails.  Here’s why this makes such perfect sense.  Activities like emails use enough energy that your cerebral cortex cannot perform energy intensive activities effectively afterwards.  The reason doing new things is harder for many is that the brain takes significantly more energy to imagine something it hasn’t seen before than it does more familiar things.  So if you have wiped out the energy reservoir of your cerebral cortex by doing the mundane (emails, details in a spreadsheet, etc.) you will never emerge to do the bigger broader thinking that requires more energy to get the neurological circuits buzzing!
